Major Pennant Report Round 1

Posted on: 8 February

Woolooware opened their season with an Away match at Camden. Having played Camden in 2021 we knew we were in for a tough match, but we remained confident fielding one of our strongest teams in recent years.

In 36 degree heat, Robbie Lancaster started proceedings at (unofficial) reserve. As one of our talented juniors, Robbie will have 6 matches this year to gain valuable Pennant golf experience. Mitch Rugless followed at #7 and was locked in a tight battle all day, with neither player getting far in front. This match ultimately ended up as a Square with half a point going to each team. Jake Hallinan scored another half point playing at #1 – with his back against the wall, he managed to win 3 of the last 5 holes to finish All Square. Trent Vella playing at #2 notched up our only win, coming from 2 down with 3 to play. A Birdie on 17 and a clutch par on 18 in front of large crowd proved to be enough to secure a 1 up victory. Kurt Rugless, Daniel Hull, Chris Jamieson and Dax De Traubenberg all put in great fights but couldn’t get the W against tough opponents.

Despite going down 2-5 we remain confident we can return the favour this week at Woolooware GC. We invite all friends, family and members to come down at support from 9:30am this Sunday.
