Major Pennant Report Round 5

Week 5 saw a do or die battle take place at WGC, our home fortress. We’ve been strong at home this year but coming up against a tough Mac Links team we knew we needed to play our best to win the day.

 

Robbie Lancaster once again led us out at reserve and banked some valuable match play experience. Mitch Rugless playing at #7 was locked in a battle early, spending most of the day 1 or 2 down. Once again proving how much he thrives under pressure, Mitch parred the last 3 holes to clinch an important half point. Wol playing at #6 also went the distance, going up the 18th hole 1 down. Having spent most of the day behind his opponent, he did well to hang but ultimately lost 2 down. Trent similarly had a close tough battle, but couldn’t do enough losing 2&1. Fortunately this is where the close battles ended, with our Winners all getting up by large margins.

Jake, coming off a 5 under in the monthly medal, won 5&4, as did Mike Hurly. Mike played great from the outset and capped off his day with a Birdie on 14! Dax counted on his years of experience to defeat the long hitting Guy Nardo and Kurt playing #3 got on a hot streak winning 4 of his last 5 holes to shake hands on the 13th green.
